(VEN) – As part of the National Trade Promotion Program for 2013 which has been approved, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will send a delegation of 15 businesses to New Delhi, India and Dhaka, Bangladesh to carry out trade promotion activities.

The delegation will stay in the two cities seven days, from December 17-24. Businesses will survey the Indian and Bangladeshi markets and meet partners to popularize Vietnamese products in an effort to promote exports to the two markets, concentrating on goods such as mobile phones and components, machinery, equipment and spare parts, rubber, coffee, pepper, pharmaceuticals, fibers, yarn, cashew nuts, plastics, animal feed and materials for feed production, maize, cotton, cement, clinker, chemicals, materials for textile, garment and leather footwear production.

India is the largest South Asian market of Vietnamese goods and the sixth largest trade partner of Vietnam. The two countries have a long-standing traditional friendship. Economic and commercial cooperation between Vietnam and India is expanding. Bilateral trade has grown strongly and in a sustainable manner, especially since the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIG) was signed in 2009. Last year, trade between the two countries reached approximately US$4 billion and that included US$1.8 billion worth of Vietnam’s exports to India and US$2.2 billion of its imports from India. Key Vietnamese exports to India include mobile phones and components, machinery and equipment, computers, rubber, coffee, pepper, fiber and yarn. Vietnam imports from India pharmaceuticals, animal feed and materials for feed production, materials for textile, garment and footwear production, machinery, equipment and spare parts, plastic materials, maize and cotton.

India is actively implementing its Look East policy in order to strengthen relations with East Asian countries, especially those which are members of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Vietnam and India wish to increase bilateral trade towards the US$7 billion target.

With a population of over 160 million and high consumer purchasing power, Bangladesh is a potential market in South Asia. In recent years, economic and commercial relations between Vietnam and Bangladesh well developed. Bilateral trade has rapidly grown. Vietnam has had a surplus in trade with Bangladesh. Last year, bilateral trade reached nearly US$390 million, including approximately US$353 million worth of Vietnam’s exports to Bangladesh and US$36 million worth of imports from Bangladesh.

Key Vietnamese exports to Bangladesh include cement, clinker, rice, fiber, yarn, steel and iron, fabric, machinery, equipment and spare parts. Vietnam imports from Bangladesh pharmaceuticals and chemicals. The two countries share many similarities in terms of export structure.

During the time the Vietnamese business delegation stays in India and Bangladesh, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with concerned organizations to hold a Vietnam-India Business Forum in New Delhi and a Vietnam-Bangladesh Business Forum in Dhaka. The ministry will also arrange for the delegation to visit the India-ASEAN Business Fair (IABF) with participants from India and 10 ASEAN countries, including Vietnam. This will offer domestic businesses a good chance to meet and discuss cooperation opportunities with Indian and Bangladeshi partners in order to establish business relations and promote Vietnam’s exports to the two markets.

Businesses which are selected to join the delegation will receive state financial support to cover return air tickets (Vietnam-India and Vietnam-Bangladesh) and the cost of organizing business forums. Other expenses related to visa, hotel accommodation, food and drink, transportation, visit to commercial events and any expenses which arise during the time they stay in India and Bangladesh will be covered by businesses.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade invites interested companies to send their registration files to the following address before Friday, August 23, 2013. The registration file must consist of a copy of the business registration certificate, a report on business results of the last two years, an application, a list of company members to join the delegation, their passports and four 4cmx6cm photos.
