Forest land allocation is one of key forestry policies since 1990s expressing the determination of the Party and State in distributing forest management authority.

After adoption, the policy has brought concrete results such as financial support for local people’s investment on plantation forest, provision of timber for wood processing industry, improvement of forest cover and forest quality.

Addressing the important role of forest land in forestry restructuring, PhD. To Xuan Phuc of Forest Trends organization affirmed “The forest land allocation policy has brought about benefits to households encouraging their participation in plantation forest, promoting wood processing as well as improving forest cover and forest quality. Forest land allocation is likely to facilitate the restructuring process of forestry sector towards the goal of improved quality, efficiency and competitiveness”.

In addition, with a view to effective policy implementation, it is necessary for the State to assign carefully forest management authority to those who have sufficient capacity of management, exploitation, production for economic gain and sustainable development, thus preventing slow implementation of forest land allocation and facilitating forest protection.
