According to the tournament’s organising board, the tournament co-organised by the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s (MPI) Foreign Investment Agency, will begin at noon at Hanoi’s Kings’ Island golf resort.

Under the patronage of the MPI and the Vietnam Learning Promotion Association, the event this year will be joined by 144 golfers from diplomatic corps, international organizations, and enterprises. The prize award ceremony will also take place in the evening of the same day.

The prime aim of the tournament is to raise fund to help poor pupils and students with excellent study record, and create a rendezvous for golfers to meet and exchange experience.

According to the organising board, since it was launched in 2007, the board has directly presented over 7,000 scholarships to poor but excellent pupils and students, while helping upgrade many training and education establishments in 38 cities and provinces nationwide. The total sum used for these activities was VND6.4 billion ($304,800).

“It is VIR’s tradition to fuel needy pupils and build a study-oriented society. Though the value of the scholarships is not big, it demonstrates VIR’s big confidence to the pupils’ bright future. I do hope that the scholarships will encourage them to make bigger efforts in their studies to become talented people of the country,” said VIR‘s editor-in-chief Nguyen Anh Tuan, who is also the organising board’s head.

The scholarships have partly helped hundreds of pupils continue their studies.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, former Public Health University student in Hanoi, used to get a Swing for the kid scholarship for three years during her studies at Public Health University in Hanoi. When she first passed the entrance examination to the university was also when all of her siblings had also been studying at their universities, while her father suddenly passed away. So it was costly for their studies then. “Still fortunately VIR gave me its Swing for the kids scholarship, which fueled my study passion. My family was then very happy at the news.”

Thao Seo Si, a Thai Nguyen Agriculture and Forestry University first-year poor student, also shared the joy.

“I am studying in the first year of Thai Nguyen Agriculture and Forestry University. I am very happy to have received a Swing for the Kids scholarship. I will use the scholarship to buy studying materials. I will try to study harder to meet the organising board’s expectations and become a good citizen contributing to national development,” Si said.

Tuan also called for more donation and support from local and foreign organizations, enterprises and donors towards this significant charitable golf tournament.

“Following the success of the previous tournaments, VIR will continue bridging the business community and poor pupils and students in Vietnam via its charitable golf tournament “Swing for the Kids” in 2014 and in the coming years,” he said.

The tournament 2014′s diamond sponsor is BRG-SeABank, which was the gold sponsor in 2012. Vingroup is the platinum sponsor this year, while the gold sponsor is Singaporean-backed education group KinderWorld.

“Swing for the kid 2014″ is also supported by many newspaper agencies like VTC, VITV, InfoTV, Dan Tri, VnExpress, Vietnam Economic Times, Education and Times, and Golf and Life.
