At the recent International Seminar on Environmental Auditing, Mr. Nguyen Huu Van, Auditor General of the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) said, the SAV would concentrate on three worrying environmental issues including natural resources exploitation, water sanitation and food safety and hygiene. Close attention would be given to these topics until 2020.

Accordingly, the SAV focuses on evaluating the environmental impacts of current natural resources exploitation practice. The SAV also expresses concern about freshwater projects, especially those in rural areas. These two topics will be given attention and in-depth evaluation in the coming time.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Van said, such issues were quite new while the limited number of auditors lacks experience of environmental auditing. Consequently, representatives of the SAV affirmed that efforts will be made in order to develop human resource, improve training program, and focus on training auditors specializing on some fields including environment.

The international seminar on environmental auditing was jointly held by the SAV and the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) with the participation of representatives of 22 supreme audit institutions and international organizations. This is the opportunity for supreme audit institutions in ASOSAI community to share experience and best practice of environmental auditing and relevant issues.
