COMING TO THE ORIGIN


This year, The festival of King Hung temple is organized within 5 days from March 6th to March 10th lunar calendar (from April 5th to April 9th), at Hung Temple historical relics cluster, the communes and wards nearby, the relics worshipping Hung Kings, great names in Hung Kings’ dynasty in Phu Tho province. Viet Tri city is among the central venues for the festival.


The very first activity attracting tourists near and far is the contest of wrapping “chung” cakes at Hung Vuong Museum, with the entrance of 100 people of 22 teams (10 teams competing to make “day” cakes, 12 wrapping and cooking “chung” cakes) from 13 districts, cities and town in the province, to gain the winning ticket to further enter the inter-provincial contest held on March 7th lunar calendar. Tourists can also join in the 9th National Duong Poetry Day, held in Viet Tri city, admiring the ancient “xoan” singing at the Xoan singing festival held at Hung Vuong Museum, watching photo and artifact exhibition on “Vietnam sea and islands sovereignty“.


From March 6th to March 10th, Hung Temple Festival effervescently held in Phu Tho province. The rituals include the death anniversary of the national ancestor Lac Long Quan and the ceremony of offering incense sticks to the national Mother Au Co in Sim Mountain; the 7 communes nearly Hung Temple are Hy Cuong, Chu Hoa, Hung Lo, Kim Duc, Van Phu (Viet Tri city) and Hung Son town let (Lam Thao) organize the ceremony of offering incense sticks to King Hung. The festive activities are: beating bronze drums, prickling “duong”, photo exhibition on “Worshipping belief to King Hung-the origin of the NationalLand“; organizing “xoan” singing at the shrines of Lai Len, Thet and Hung Lo…


THE BELIEF OF WORSHIPPING KING HUNG


At the end of 2012, the belief of worshiping King Hung in Phu Tho” was recognized by UNSECO as the humankind’s representing intangible cultural heritage. This is the great pride of not only Phu Tho people but also the common joy of the entire Vietnamese people at this particularly meaningful and significant cultural event.


Cultural values through belief through the worshipping King Hung is the patriotism, the solidarity spirit, the community spirits that are competent in provoking people to strive further, and the appealing towards the origin. The belief of worshipping King Hung shows the harmonious relationship among the houses, villages and country, and ensures the sustainable, moral and humane solidification of individuals, communities.


March lunar calendar is the time for festive activities and rituals in Hung King’s land, this is also a precious chance to show one’s deep gratitude to the ancestors who established and preserved the country, to experience the cultural values sing Hung King’s time, simultaneously contributing to advertising the heritage of “xoan” singing and the belief of worshipping Hung King.
