As reported by Haiphong Department ofIndustry and Trade at the regular meeting convened by Haiphong People’s Committee in March 2014, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in March 2014 is estimated to increaseby 26.44 % as compared to the previous month and up by 5.41 % against the same period of 2013. Generally, IIP in the first quarter of 2014 is calculated to grow by 11.3 % over the same period last year, in which several industries of machinery production, electric equipment and household electric appliances… have reached fairly high growth rate.
After running trial operation, some new projects have made debut products, these include printers and copiers of Fuji Xerox; metal products containing chemicals of Zeon; lubricant products of Idemitsu; tires of Bridgestonecompany. Despite not operating at maximum capacity, these outcomes have made significant contributions tothe city’s industry growth.
As appreciated by the Industry and Trade sector, 14 economic sectors attained high IID by 15% or more over the same period last year, some sectors of which maintained a modest growth, namely the production of machinery and office equipment rose by 402.9%; the manufacture of motors, generators and electrical control equipment grew by 147.6%; other dedicated machinery and household electric appliances up 71.4% and 29.8% respectively…. Meanwhile, 8 fourth-grade economic sectors recorded IIP less than 15 % versus the same period last year. These are plastic production (9.4%), wire and cable production (3.3%), shipbuilding (4.3%) and battery manufacturing (3.2 %) …
However, other sectors are still facing huge difficulties as the iron steel production decreased 20.5 %; fiber production down 30,3 %; production of concrete and cement-based products reduced 25.4 % andfertilizer dropped 12.9 %.
