(VOV) – Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) for April increased just 0.08% from the previous month, according to the General Statistics Office.

Transportation saw the highest price growth (0.33%), followed by garments, hats and footwear (0.26%) and equipment and utensils (0.24%).

However, housing and construction materials and post and communications prices fell 0.56% and 0.14% respectively.

With a slight surge in April, Vietnam’s CPI has risen to a 13-year record low of 0.88% in a four-month span,

Early this month, the Price Management Agency (PMA) forecast that April’s CPI might possibly decline but that growth would likely be lower than March.

They postulated that prices of essential materials and fuels on the global market would fluctuate slightly while prices of essential products and services on the domestic market would remain relatively stable or possibly drop slightly.

Relevant ministries, agencies and localities have strengthened price management and stabilisation measures, proving effective.

However, the PMA warned the prolonged drought in the central and Central Highland regions and animal epidemics are putting pressure on market prices.
