The official visit to Vietnam by the Prime Minister of Malaysia from April 3-5 is envisaged to enhance the warm and friendly bilateral relations that exist between Malaysia and Vietnam, the Foreign Minister of Malaysia said on the eve of the visit.

“I am of the view that the relations between the two countries would be further boosted at the highest levels in efforts to encourage more cooperation, visits of officials, as well as people-to-people contacts,” Minister Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman told Vietnam News Agency’s reporters on April 2.

Discussing the progress of the relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam during the past years, especially since the State visit made by Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang to Malaysia in 2011 and the State visit of Malaysian King to Vietnam last year, he said Malaysia is very pleased with these high-level visits within a relatively short span of time.

He also mentioned the official visit by Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Education of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in October 2013, which was made during the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Vietnam in 2013.

According to the minister, there are many areas on which Malaysia and Vietnam can focus their cooperation in order to boost bilateral cooperation, adding that at the moment, the two countries are in the midst of finalising an MOU on agriculture cooperation. He said the MOU is to be signed during the Malaysian PM’s official visit to Vietnam.

Also on this occasion, FM Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman said Malaysia appreciates Vietnam’s assistance in the search and rescue operations and efforts to locate the missing MH370 aircraft from the very start of the incident, particularly when it was believed that the aircraft had crashed into the East Sea. He expressed Malaysia’s sincere appreciation and gratitude to the assistance and support from the Vietnamese Government.-VNA
