DA NANG (VNS)— A repatriation ceremony for the remains of US troops who died during the war in Viet Nam was held yesterday at Da Nang International Airport.
Representatives from the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and representatives of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the US MIA Office in Ha Noi attended the ceremony.
The Vietnamese side’s representative handed over to the US side three boxes of remains recovered during the 114th Joint Field Activities from February to March.
The remains were jointly reviewed by Viet Nam and US forensic specialists, who recommended that they be brought to the US state of Hawaii for further review.
Addressing the ceremony, the US Government representative expressed deep gratitude for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will and increasingly efficient co-operation of the Viet Nam Government and people.
The seeking of the remains of US troops who went missing during the war in Viet Nam is a form of humanitarian co-operation between the Viet Nam Government and the US Government. This was the 130th handover of missing American troops’ remains since 1973. — VNS
