Vietnam exported 1.2 million tons of rice worth US $529.1 million in the first quarter of 2014. This reaches the expected export target.
Farmers harvest rice in Long An (SGGP)
The country exported over 583,000 tons worth US $256.1 million in March 2014. This is a decrease of 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
China is the largest export market, accounting for 40 percent of total sales. The Philippines is the second largest export market accounting for 31 percent. The country recently imported 800,000 tons of rice from Thailand and Vietnam.
