This was the first of its kind to be channeled through Soai Rap route to Hiep Phuoc seaport, making a breakthrough in boosting marine-based economic development in HCM City and surrounding provinces.
Due to the Soai Rap sea route, maritime vessels can shorten their travel time and save on costs, thus sharpening competitiveness for Vietnamese imports and exports.
SPCT executive director William Khoury said the Soai Rap route will open up a new chapter in HCM City’s maritime history. It will receive trans-Asia ships from 4,200 TEU to 5,000 TEU which account for more than 68% of Vietnam’ total trade output, he added.
Soai Rap will continue to be upgraded to handle 70,000-tonne cargo ships.
