(VOV) – The 13th National Assembly will open its 17th session on May 20, expecting to approve 11 revised laws and 3 resolutions and make the first review of 16 revised laws.

The legislative body is scheduled to spend seven days discussing supervisory work and other major national issues.

NA deputies will listen to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh reporting on the East Sea situation, China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, and the country’s orientation and measures.

NA Offce Chairman Nguyen Hanh Phuc told a press briefing in Hanoi on May 19 that the NA will listen to a government report on the East Sea and the deputies will discuss the issue. In the spirit of respecting the law, the Vietnamese NA is determined to resolve the dispute by peaceful means based on international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the UN Charter.

The NA Standing Committee will make supplements to the resolution on the vote of confidence on officials elected or approved by the NA and People’s Councils, he added.
