NZ opens door for Vietnamese dragon fruit

VGP – The New Zealand Ministry of Trade has passed the criteria on Import Health Standard – IHS for Vietnamese dragon fruit, paving a favorable way for the product to enter the market.










Besides meeting general requirements for imported fruits to New Zeland, Vietnamese dragon fruit must be tested and verified by the National Plant Protection Organization of Viet Nam before going overseas.

Earlier, Vietnamese dragon fruit succeeded in entering other markets including the US, Japan, and the RoK.

Viet Nam is considered one of the countries that have favorable conditions for growing and developing dragon fruit.

The country has around 25,000 ha of dragon fruit, mostly grown in the central and southern provinces of Binh Thuan, Tien Giang and Long An. Due to high economic value brought to growers, the dragon fruit plantations in the localities have continuously increased over the recent past.

Along with planning intensive production areas, improving the quality of dragon fruit in the near future of Viet Nam`s dragon fruit will be available in many parts of the world./.
