Ha Tinh Province Police on June 7 announced a decision to set up a fire fighting and prevention police team in Vung Ang Economic Zone which was hit by anti-China riot in mid-May.

The team will tighten fire prevention management in the economic zone, be ready to stamp out fires occurring there and minimize human and property losses.

The Ha Tinh People’s Court is expected to open a trial court to hear the theft case on the construction site of Taiwan’s Formosa project in Vung Ang, said authorized agencies on the same day.

Looters had taken advantage of the anti-China riot in mid-May to steal properties from Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company who is carrying out the project.

Provincial police have held 99 in custody and prosecuted 36 others for causing public disorder and theft. They were asked to compensate the Taiwanese company for properties looted during the riot.

Vung Ang Economic Zone has reopened last week and over 17,700 workers returned to work. Eighty nine contractors of the Formosa project have resumed work, including 12 Taiwanese and 12 Chinese companies.
