The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recently issued Decision 1167/QD-BNN-TCTS to adopt the Action Plan for the “Restructuring fisheries sector towards added value increase and sustainable development” Project.
Accordingly, the fisheries sector will intensify scientific and technological application, technological innovation and modernisation to reduce post-harvest losses (both quantity and quality), and enhance the value, efficiency and competitiveness of the sector.
The sector will reduce littoral fishing, expand offshore fishing, enhance the efficiency of commercial fishing, and reduce post-harvest losses. Commercial fishing will be tied to the defence and protection of sovereignty and national security on the sea.
Aquaculture will be reshuffled. The sector will develop production chain links from breeding, feeding and farming to processing and distribution to ensure safe environments for shrimp, catfish and molluscs. The chain link will be first deployed with shrimp.
In addition, the sector will necessarily study regulations in importing markets to have appropriate solutions to potential commercial issues. In the near term, the sector will study the US Agricultural Act of 2014 to remove difficulties facing catfish in the US market.
