By the beginning of the third quarter in 2014, Ho Chi Minh city will collect partial fees from drug users participating in the methadone maintenance treatment program.
According to the municipal people’s committee, the international grant for Vietnam has been gradually cut so the city now needs to supplement expense to maintain operations of clinics and drug detoxification.
In 2014, the municipal budget includes spending of VND10.9 billion on methadone and operations for socialized facilities. Of this figure, VND7.7 billion is designated to buy methadone for 4,500 drug users.
Along with socialization, the city will continue to expand the methadone maintenance treatment program to all districts with 10 facilities and 15 satellite methadone delivery points./.
