Nhan Dan Online – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged ministries, sectors and localities to strictly promote the application of information technology (IT) in State management, aiming to meet people’s and enterprises’ demands for utility services.
Presiding over the first plenary session of the National Committee on Information Technology Application in Hanoi on June 26, PM Dung, who chairs the Committee, asked for stronger and faster IT application in such pressing fields as health, education, construction, tax and customs.
The Party and State has advocated IT development, he said, citing that the country has obtained many outstanding achievements in the IT sector in terms of its four IT mainstays of human resources, industry, infrastructure and application.
The government leader stressed the need for more drastic and effective implementation of the project, to promptly turn Vietnam into a strong nation in IT and communication, focusing on developing the IT sector in line with the four identified pillars and considering IT application a new production method to boost socio-economic growth, improve the economy’s working productivity and competitiveness, enhancing State management efficiency and reducing costs for people and businesses.
He also urged more attention be given to establishing a national database system and supplying public services through the internet, moving towards building an e-Government system.
The PM asked the Committee to better fulfil its tasks of proposing and building IT development strategies, especially working out relevant solutions to boost IT development based on the four envisaged mainstays.
He agreed with deputies’ recommendations on the policy to hire IT services in State agencies, which aims to create equal, competitive markets and save costs for machinery and personnel, and asked for information security during its implementation process.
PM Dung assigned Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam – vice chairman of the Committee – to instruct functional agencies to build a national database on population and then on land and enterprises.
