Accompanying Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, who attended the 24th Global Summit of Women (GSW) in Paris – the capital of France in June 2014, the Vietnamese business delegation with 32 members, organised by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and led by Ms Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, Chairwoman of VWEC, concluded successfully.
The Global Summit of Women (GSW) 2014 assembled the largest-ever attendance of 1,300 delegates from 81 countries and territories in the world, including Vietnam with the sixth largest number of delegates. The Summit was attended by two incumbent female presidents, two former female presidents, one incumbent vice president, one deputy prime minister and 36 ministers.
Speaking at the opening session on June 5, 2014, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said that the Summit has become an important annual event of stateswomen, businesswomen and activists from every region in the world. She highly appreciated the topic of discussion of this year’s Summit – Women’s roles in redesigning economies and societies while affirming that women are gradually stepping forwards with men to hold the key to unlock all difficulties and challenges that the world faces and emphasising that the society cannot develop sustainably without women’s contributions and gender equality cannot be achieved without the participation of the whole society.
Ms Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, Chairwoman of VWEC and Chairperson of the ASEAN Women Enterprises Network (AWEN), had a meeting with GSW President Irene Natividad, representatives from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and AWEN members on the evening of June 4, 2014 at Marriod Hotel. She raised issues of ASEAN women entrepreneurs’ interests, proposed the GSW and the OECD to coordinate in carrying out support activities and promoting the development of ASEAN women entrepreneurs, suggested cooperation mechanism with the GSW through connecting ASEAN women entrepreneurs with APEC women entrepreneurs, OCED women entrepreneurs and GSW women entrepreneurs. AWEN also sent its recommendations to annual themes of GSW.
Nguyen Viet Loan, President and CEO of Spa Deleo Services Business Joint Stock Company and a delegation member, delivered a speech themed “Overcoming ‘failures’ in a successful way.” She shared her business experience, strategy planning and business orientation.
The Vietnam business delegation met with overseas Vietnamese community representatives, social scientists, professionals and entrepreneurs in France, hosted by the Embassy of Vietnam in France. In a sincere, open atmosphere, Vice President Doan underlined Vietnamese women entrepreneurs’ roles in redesigning economies and societies, particularly in the context of global economic downturn. She also wished the Vietnamese community in France would have more practical contributions to the fatherland in various fields, with science, education and economy being priorities. Although this event was not exclusively for businesses, Vietnamese delegation brought products, brochures, national investment projects in need of foreign investment until 2020 and investment guidance in Vietnam to meeting hall lobbies. Many overseas Vietnamese companies met and showed their interest in importing Vietnamese coffee, exporting French cosmetics and wine, and cooperating in French perfume and cosmetic production. The Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council also worked with the Vietnam Trade Office in France on establishing business connections for Vietnamese businesswomen.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese business delegation also paid working visits to the Netherlands and Belgium. VWEC Chairwoman Minh hosted a meeting with Dutch Employers Organisation. At the meeting, Vietnamese entrepreneurs expressed their desires to seek partners to export processed farm products and acquire Dutch technologies and administration methods. The Dutch Employers Organisation was committed to supporting Vietnamese enterprises with capacity building by means of training and consulting programmes, technology transfer, market research, partner seeking, and business connections. The organisation also pledged to accompany Dutch Prime Minister to visit Vietnam in June and invited VWEC representatives to attend a Dutch business meeting in Vietnam.
