​Vice chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee Mr. Pham Truong Tho has met with two districts of Binh Son and Son Tinh about the situation of pro-longed drought seriously affecting to cultivation.
In Binh Son district, the water level in reservoirs has been lowering. It was reported that 8 reservoirs remained 30-40 percent of their capacity, while 26 ponds were recorded to be 5-25 percent of their capacity, and 23 left have been dry fully.
At the meeting held after his site survey at extremely dried – fields and reservoirs, Mr. Tho strictly urged districts to strengthen further efforts in dealing with the bad situation to save fields by reminding farmers to save water from irrigations and to water fields alternately, especially provide water for dry fields firstly.
He asked them to mobilize residents to dig drainages leading water to fields and upgrade irrigation systems. Water released-valves must be checked.
As revealed by Son Tinh district, the cultivated area facing the shortage of water was recorded to be over 71 hectares, of which 20 hectares have been under impossible cultivation.
The district carried out as many as methods to save fields, and mobilized human resource to dig wells, dams and dredge river bed.
The drought situation in Binh Son district was reported to be more serious than Son Tinh. The dry farming land was released to be over 344 hectares where have been facing the serious lack of water.
According to Binh Son Government, several pump stations were set up, and dykes were built on Tra Bong River to lead water to drought fields. So far, nearly 5 billion VND has been spent on drought control to save paddy fields.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the hot weather continually remains 10 days or more, so the number of fully dried-reservoirs will increase.
Therefore, it is worried that province would deal with the unexpected shortage of water for cultivation and household.
