The province officially received the Japanese equipment and technology during a ceremony, attended by the provincial People’s Committee, the Vietnam – Japan Friendship Society in the Japanese city of Sakai, and the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, on Tuesday.

The Philippines and Indonesia are exporting tuna to Japan at 1,000 yen (US$10) per kg, while Vietnam could make it at half that price.

This has prompted the Binh Dinh government to utilize Japanese technology to increase export quality.

Binh Dinh sent five fishermen and seafood officials to Japan to learn their fishing and preserving tuna technologies,” province chairman Le Huu Loc said.

The province had earmarked VND1.5 billion ($70,755) for buying five sets of tuna hunting equipment from Japan, Loc added.

The sum was spent on renovating the frozen storages on five vessels that were selected for a pilot program to ensure quality of tuna exports to the Japanese market, according to the chairman.
