$30m general hospital to be built in Can Tho

Can Tho City will spend more than VND600 billion (US$30 million) to build a general hospital equipped with modern facilities imported from France, according to Vo Thi Hong Anh, deputy chairwoman of the city’s People’s Committee. The construction will begin this year and the investment capital comes from different sources.

Lao Cai Province promotes spiritual tourism


The northern province of Lao Cai has announced a tourism promotion programme that will focus on new tours and traditional festivals. Spiritual tourism areas located in Lao Cai and neighbouring provinces of Phu Tho and Yen Bai will be featured. Local tourist agencies and hotels have been encouraged to offer discounts of 30 per cent. Dozens of festivals highlighting traditional culture and lifestyle will also be organised by the end of the year.

Project to build suspension bridges launched


A project to build suspension bridges in 28 mountainous and Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) provinces was launched by the Ministry of Transport on Thursday in Yen Bai Province’s Mu Cang Chai District. Under the 2014-2016 project, 187 bridges will be built in remote and flood areas. The investor, Viet Nam Road Administration, will work with local authorities to complete the project on schedule.

Shoes, leather export turnover reaches $4.8b


Export turnover for shoes and leather reached $4.8 billion in the first six months of this year, an increase of 21.9 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The turnover this year is expected to reach more than $11 billion. The major markets include Japan, Belgium, Germany and the US.

VN draws over 4 million foreign tourists


The country attracted more than 4.2 million foreign tourists, half of them arriving for vacation, in the first six months of this year, an increase of 22.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Viet Nam Tourism Administration. In June, more than 530,000 foreigners visited the country.
