(VOV) – The southern Delta Aquarid meteor shower with radiants reaching a zenithal hourly rate or ZHR of 20 will make its appearance over the skies of Vietnam in late July.
- May meteor shower set to light up night sky
- Quadrantid meteor shower due on Jan. 4
- Meteor shower expected on October 22
The duration of the Delta Aquarid meteor shower covers the period from July 12 to August 23, maximum occurring on July 29-30 with typical radiants of 15-20 per hour.
Vietnamese astronomy lovers can watch the natural phenomenon on the early morning July 30, says Dang Tuan Duy from the Ho Chi Minh City Amateur Astronomy Club (HAAC).
The best time to see is the early morning hours before sunrise on July 30 in the east and southeasterly skies, Duy says.
Observers in the southern hemisphere and the northern hemisphere near the equator also have the opportunity to witness the northern Delta Aquarid.
The Delta Aquarids were discovered by astronomer Donald Machholz in 1986. There are two separate meteor showers: North Delta Aquarid and South Delta Aquarid.
