On July 6, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Cao Duc Phat gave presents to fishermen in the central province of Quang Ngai as a tribute to their offshore fishing activities in the waters off Spratly and Paracel archipelagoes. Visiting fishermen in Binh Chau commune, Binh Duong district, the minister gave 20 presents worth VND3 million each and a package of essential goods. He informed the fishermen of VND16 trillion approved by the National Assembly to support offshore fishing, including the building of suitable vessels for the purpose. The Government will give priority and practical support to the building of steel ships so that the fishermen can sustain their activities for a long time and increase the efficiency of their operations, he said. Besides this, the State Bank of Vietnam has announced a VND10 trillion credit package at preferential interest rates to assist fishermen in modernising their fishing fleet. The minister thanked the fishermen for standing by Vietnamese law enforcement missions in protecting the nation’s sea and island sovereignty. According to the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee, as of late May, the province had 5,459 fishing vessels with a total capacity of 895,132 CV./. |
