Over VND1.5 trillion mobilised to assist nearly 12.8 million disadvantaged people

In the first half of this year, the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) carried out a range of diverse humanitarian activities to assist extremely disadvantaged people, with the mobilization of VND1.537 trillion in value, benefiting nearly 12.8 million people.

According to the VRC Vice President and Secretary General, Doan Van Thai, outstanding humanitarian programs could be named “TET for the poor and Agent Orange victims”. Presents worth VND635 billion were given to 1.7 million poor families and AO victims’ families. In addition, the “cow bank” program allocated over 3,000 cows worth nearly VND33 billion to poor families.


According to Mr. Thai, the prevention activities and responses to calamities were carried out professionally, with 18 provinces and cities having reserved funds to cope with the consequences of natural disasters, with many having set up community response teams.


He also highlighted the assistance given to healthcare and blood banks for communities. As a result of efforts, 970 humanitarian medical rooms and 248 humanitarian healthcare teams organised 1,648 medical check-up programs and distributed free medicine.


Besides, the VRC set up a fund worth nearly VND1 trillion donated by communications agencies and other organizations.


In the second half of this year, the VRC has developed a plan to promote a healthcare program for at least another 1 million people./.
