The Hai Phong fellow countryman in the UK in late June presented GBP1,000 to the Vietnamese Embassy to support Vietnamese law enforcement forces and fishermen. Mr. Hoang Loc, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the UK, and representative for the Hai Phong fellow countryman, said that in spite of living far from the homeland, the overseas Vietnamese in the UK still follow news from the homeland. At the beginning of May 2014, China illegally dispatched the rig with a large fleet of armed vessels, military ships and aircraft to Vietnam’s waters, clearly violating Vietnam’s sovereignty and international laws. The overseas Vietnamese in the UK became furious and joined rallies in London to protest against China’s perverse actions. They insist that China immediately withdraw the drilling rig out of Vietnam’s waters and respect Vietnam’s sovereignty. The amount of money is not large but it represents the affection of the Hai Phong fellow countryman to add strength to the Vietnamese law enforcement forces and fishermen to protect the sovereignty of the country. Deputy Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee, Nguyen Ngoc Lam, received the funds during his current working visit in the UK. He highlighted his deep feelings for the sentiment of the overseas Vietnamese community in the UK and the Hai Phong fellow-countrymen in particular. He also expressed his desire that the overseas Vietnamese community, including the overseas Vietnamese community in the UK, continue with practical actions to maintain their connection and contribution to the homeland. Last month, through the Vietnamese Embassy, Vinahuas company and the Hai Phong fellow countryman in the UK sent GBP2,000 to encourage the spirits of law enforcement forces, fishermen and disabled children./. |
