(VOV) – The Vietnamese embassy in Ukraine has devised evacuation plans for nearly 300 Vietnamese expatriates in Donetsk after President Petro Poroshenko declared an end to the July 1 ceasefire and launched military operations in Lugansk and Donetsk provinces.

The Vietnamese embassy contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transportation and Communication and the railway sector of Ukraine to support the evacuation campaign.

Several Vietnamese nationals took train to capital Kiev on July 14. However, for different reasons most of Vietnamese nationals moved to localities near Donetsk.

Ung Quoc Binh, a Vietnamese embassy official in charge of the evacuation campaign, said the embassy has worked out specific plans, including accommodations for evacuees.

With assistance from the Vietnamese business community, trading centres and Vietnamese families in Kiev are ready to allocate temporary residence for the evacuees.

The Kiev-based Cau Vong (Rainbow) trading centre has provided accommodations for two postgraduates and two other families fleeing from Donetsk.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tri said top priority is given to ensuring safety and security of Vietnamese residents in Donetsk.

He encouraged Vietnamese residents there to quickly arrange business affairs and evacuate from the war-torn areas.

Approximately 10,000 Vietnamese are currently residing, working and studying in Ukraine, mostly in big cities like Kharkov, Odessa, Kiev, and Donetsk.
