Society:


— Six people died from flooding and landslide in Tam Duong District in the mountainous northern province of Lai Chau on Tuesday early morning, according to a local official.


— Two law enforcement force ships of the Vietnam Coastguard Force #CSB 8001 and #CSB 9001 anchored at Vung Tau port in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau on Tuesday, nearly 100 days after operating near the place where China illegally placed its drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 inside Vietnam’s waters in the East Vietnam Sea.


— Police in the southern province of Dong Nai announced on Tuesday that they have arrested a group of people for transporting skeletons of two endangered tigers. One skeleton weighs 69kg and the other weighs 20kg.


Business:


— While scores of dragon fruits in the central province of Binh Thuan have been dumped, many local enterprises lamented that they are not able to collect enough dragon fruits to export to markets in Japan and the United States.


Politics:


— At a multilateral diplomacy conference in Hanoi on Tuesday, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said multilateral diplomacy forms an important part of the country’s policy on external relations and international integration.


Vietnam and the European Union (EU) have pledged to step up efforts to conclude negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement (EVFTA) by October this year.


Vietnam and EU has agreed to up the EU’s early recognition of Vietnam as a market economy. Their agreement was made during talks between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Vice President of the European Commission (EC) and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Hanoi on Tuesday.
