PANO – Documents, publications and nearly 100 maps affirming Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos belong to Vietnam are on display at the fortnight-long exhibition opened on August 1st in Bac Ninh province by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the provincial People’s Committee.

Themed “Hoang Sa, Truong Sa of Vietnam-Historical and Legal Evidence”, the exhibition showcases documents highlighting the State of Vietnam, of different periods, exploiting, exercising and protecting the national sovereignty over the two archipelagos Hoang Sa and Truong Sa and other waters and islands in Vietnam territory. Those continuous and peaceful activities have been recorded in documents of Vietnam and other countries, especially in maps published from the 16th century.

Apart from documents, in Chinese, Vietnamese and French languages, released by Vietnam’s feudal court and French administration in Indochina between the 17th and early 20th centuries asserting Vietnam’s establishment, exercise and safeguard of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands, on display are 65 maps released by Vietnam and Western countries since the 18th centuries, 4 atlases and 30 maps published by Chinese State featuring the fact that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos have been never under China’s management.

Noteworthily, 4 atlases that the Qing dynasty and the Republic of China published demonstrate that China’s southernmost boundary stops at Hainan Island and exclude Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos of Vietnam.

Moreover, images showcasing the joint efforts of the Party, the State, the army, people, socio-political organizations and overseas Vietnamese to safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands as well as international friends’ supports for Vietnam’s fight to protect its sovereignty are vividly exhibited in this exhibition.

The Ministry of Information and Communications plans to showcase the above exhibits on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos at 3 famous universities in the USA late this year.
