Gov’t may reward whistleblowers with bonuses of up to $250,000

VietNamNet Bridge – According to draft regulations written by the Government Inspectorate and Ministry of Home Affairs, whistleblowers who help the state recover at least VND1 trillion ($47.6 million) due to corruption can receive a bonus of VND5 billion ($250,000), the maximum amount to given under the proposed reward system.


The draft document says that those who detect and prevent corruption valued at VND300 million ($15,000), and those who sacrifice their lives or are seriously injured due to denouncement of the acts of corruption will be awarded the Medal of Courage and VND70 million ($3,500).



Corruption whistleblowers who help the state recover from VND200 million to VND500 million ($10,000-25,000) or are injured due to their denouncement of corruption will be awarded the certificates of merit by the Prime Minister and about VND50 million ($2,500).


Those who help the state recover from VND20 million ($1,000) to VND200 million ($10,000) will receive certificates of merit from ministries, provinces and other organizations and a VND23 million ($1,100) bonus.


The draft stipulates that the bonus will be granted based on the assets recovered for the state but the ceiling rate is fixed at maximum VND5 billion ($250,000).


According to a member of the compilation group, cash bonuses have been used by a number of countries, such as the US and the Republic of Korea.
