The U19 Myanmar football team on Saturday beat their Vietnamese counterparts 4-3 in the final at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Brunei to win the Southeast Asian U-22 Football Championship or Hassanal Bolkiah Cup.

Myanmar’s Myo Ko Tun opened the scoring in the 17th minute to lead Vietnam 1-0 but Phan Van Long from Vietnam leveled the scores 1-1 in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Vietnam’s Ho Tuan Tai kicked the ball into the net in the 49th minute, giving Vietnam a 2-1 lead.
Myanmar answered back with two consecutive goals in the 59th and 60th minute, securing a 3-2 lead over Vietnam.
Striker Cong Phuong from Vietnam scored in the 72th minute to draw 3-3. But in the 82th minute, Myanmar’s Aung Thu scored the winning goal to grab the trophy for his country.
Last year, the U-19 Vietnam team beat U-19 Myanmar 3-1 at the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championship held in Indonesia. But in April, the Myanmar team beat U-19 Japan 1-0, while the U-19 Vietnam squad was beaten 7-0 by the Japanese side in friendly matches.
Myanmar beat Malaysia 2-0 in the semis to advance to the final game today. Myanmar is also the only unbeaten team in the group stage of the event.
