Vietnam crowns 2014 Asia-Pacific Robot Contest

A Vietnamese team from the Lac Hong University in southern province of Dong Nai on August 24th pocketed the first prize at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon), held in India.


This is the first time that the team won the first prize after participating in the contest for five consecutive times.

After winning the qualifications, the Vietnamese team defeated Egypt’s in the quarterfinal, Indonesia’s in the semifinal and the existing champion of Japan in the final to gain the glory.



This year’s event drew the participation of 18 teams from 17 countries and territories, including Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.


The ABU Robocon is an Asian Oceania College Robot Competition founded in 2002 by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. Previously, teams of Vietnam’s University of Science and Technology, under the Ho Chi Minh City National University, attained the champion title in the 2002, 2004 and 2006 events.


Since 2010, teams of Lac Hong University have represented Vietnam to compete in the final round of the contest. Last year, it ranked second at the contest held in Da Nang city, Khanh Hoa province.
