The oak populations are found in N. 1331sub-district, at an altitude from 1,100m to 1,250m in Nam Nung Nature Reserve, Dak Song district, Dak Nong province.
Recently, experts from the Institute of Forestry Research – Vietnam Academy of Forest Science has discovered a population of rare oak tree with the numbers up to 200 trees. The average height of these trees is about 18m; average diameters are ranging from 60 to 120cm, large trees up to 2 m.
Its scientific name is Trigonobalanus verticillata Forman, the most recently described genus of Fagaceae
In the world, these oak trees have been found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. In Vietnam, it has ever been discovered in Kon Ka Kinh National Park in Gia Lai province and Bidoup Nui Ba National Park in Lam Dong province. The species is now listing in the Endangered Species in the Red Data Book of Vietnam.
