A fund to support cancer patients was set up on September 9 in the Ho Chi Minh City-based Tumor Hospital, aiming to provide treatment to cancer patients.
The fund named Brilliant Tomorrow is established to ease a cancer patient’s financial burden and will bridge benefactors’ hearts with cancer people.
The fund’s office is located in the hospital. The fund staffs will verify the information of poor patients to have timely assistance.
Each needy patient will receive from VND10million-VND30 million (US$472-US$1,416) depending on their difficult circumstances.
Dr. Le Hoang Minh, the hospital’s director cum the fund’s director, said that around 150 million people are infected with cancer and more than 75 million people died of the disease each year.
Around 50 percent of cancer people are unable to afford treatment expense due to their difficult circumstances.
The Tumor Hospital receives more than 20,000 cases each year; 60-70 percent of them are to come from corners in the country.
In the launching ceremony, the fund gave 15 gifts each worth VND10 million to disadvantaged cancer patients.
