Integrating climate change and disaster mitigation into economic – social development

​The program “Community-based Response to Climate Change”, Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade have recently coordinated with non-governmental organizations to hold a conference on “Integrating climate change and disaster mitigation into economic-social development plan and sectoral plan” in Tien Giang province.


The conference aims to strengthen the understanding of the planning process of Vietnam, the participants, mechanisms and resources for the implementation of the plan; raise awareness of the team members of climate change media group about the need to integrate these elements to respond to climate change and mitigate disaster risk into economic-social development plan at the sectoral and local level. Thence, agree on a roadmap to expand this work.



The conference witnessed many contribution ideas about the effects of climate change and disaster mitigation in each locality, especially in the coastal provinces of Vietnam. At the same time, the delegates also shared the experience of the typical localities to establish effective plans in response to climate change.


The delegates highly appreciated this conference in contributing practical meanings to the localities. This is an opportunity to interact, expand and share experience among localities, mobilizing the active participation of the members in the integration of climate change adaptation and disaster mitigation into the planning program of socio-economic development in the period 2011 – 2015, especially in the coming period 2016 – 2020.
