As Mid-Autumn approaches (the 15th day of the lunar August), diverse activities are being held in different places to help children with special circumstances, welcome the traditional festival. In Can Tho City, the city centre for HIV/AIDS prevention, held a program to celebrate the festival for over 130 children who are infected with HIV/AIDS. Under the program, they had an exchange with friends in similar circumstances, enjoying art performances, circus performances and food. The organising committee also gave presents worth VND150,000 each to the children, as well as supporting their travel fees with VND100,000 and awarded 10 scholarships worth VND500,000 each to those who got excellent academic results. In the Northern Province of Ninh Binh, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children worked with the Provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs to hold a Mid-Autumn festival for 450 children in special circumstances. During the program, 110 poor and disadvantaged children in the province were given scholarships worth VND3 million each while 10 others received long-term scholarships worth VND5 million per year. During the festival, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children supported the Mid-Autumn Festival with capital of VND400 million for 1,000 poor children in coastal regions in the Central Province of Quang Nam and Phu Yen./. |
