Police crack down on large timber smuggling

The Ministry of Public Security has been blocking a number of large timber processing companies in Dak Lak Province suspected of being involved in smuggling activities.



Entrances to Hien Thai Company blocked


On September 9, police blocked all investment to other provinces from Hien Thai Company for suspicions they are part of a timber smuggling ring. The company’s lumberyard premises, located in Buon Ma Thuot City covers thousands of square metres, is surrounded by high walls to prevent outsiders from gaining a look inside.


Employees have said that police conducted inspection of the entire operation and then asked them to temporarily stop working.


On the same day, a timber processing factory on Mai Hac De Street, as well as another in Ea Sup District were also blocked up for inspection. These are large factories and have been in operation for many years.


The inspection was carried out after the Ministry of Public Security seized several trucks carrying timber with unclear origins. The trucks are still being kept at the Central Highland Security Agency.
