Nhan Dan Online – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the northern province of Quang Ninh to build a favourable, open and transparent investment environment and take measures to mobilise resources for socio-economic development and improve people’s lives.
Attending the September 13 conference to announce Quang Ninh’s seven strategic plans, PM Dung stressed the province’s crucial geographic location in terms of economics, socio-culture, national defence and security, politics and diplomacy, while highlighting its huge potential and advantages for promoting tourism, service, trade, industry and agriculture.
He applauded the outstanding socio-economic achievements obtained by Quang Ninh authorities and people over the past time, with an annual GDP growth rate of 9% and poverty rate reduced to approximately 2%.
However, Quang Ninh has not yet met fully with its potential, PM Dung said, adding that the province’s development was not sustainable as the agricultural sector used up to 40% of local labourers but only made up 6% of the province’s GDP.
The government leader urged Quang Ninh to pay attention to administrative reform, especially administrative procedure reform, while working harder to improve the quality of human resources.
He also instructed the province to build a strong, transparent and effective political system, strengthen national defence and security, safeguard the national sovereignty and promote fine relations of mutual benefits with neighbouring Chinese provinces on the basis of friendship, equality and mutual respect.
At the conference, the province announced its strategic plans to 2020, with a vision to 2030, with seven master plans on socio-economic development, provincial regional construction, tourism promotion, environment, land use, scientific and technological development and human resource development.
