The seminar was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and was attended by 24 delegates from Asia-Pacific countries.

The three-day event is aimed at promoting exports of defense equipment to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In the seminar, Japan’s security policy of “Proactive Contribution to Peace” will be explained to ASEAN countries, in order to promote their understanding of the unique security position. Also, exchanging views will be held on Japan’s support for ASEAN countries in the fields of maritime security and disaster relief.

The seminar is expected to promote more concrete security and defense cooperation between Japan and ASEAN countries.

The seminar provided participating countries with an opportunity to further strengthen cooperative relations in the field of maritime security and to establish a network of contacts for further development.

It was expected that participating countries will identify priority areas for building and strengthening maritime law enforcement capacities from mid- and long-term perspectives, and consider how Japanese assistance might help them accomplish their maritime security objectives.

The event will last until September 26./.
