The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee will organize activities in response to the campaign on cleaning up the world in 2014 with the theme “Take action for an environment without garbage” on September 15-21. The theme of this year’s campaign which is hoped to have a global impact, emphasizes the key role and responsibility of individuals in the community and the contributions required of them to create and maintain within a sustainable mechanism, a green environment. It is expected that the main activities of the campaign will take place in Thai Nguyen, including the national launch and a tree planting ceremony in the framework of “One million trees for Vietnam” as well as presenting awards for the best video clip about environmental protection. To respond the campaign, the MONRE asked ministries, sectors, provincial and municipal People’s Committees, groups and state-owned corporations to direct their units to strengthen communication, mobilize and educate staff and people to raise awareness about protecting the local environment. The MONRE also asked provincial and municipal people’s committees and organizations to launch and maintain environmental protection movements such as volunteering on Saturday; Green Sunday; One day don’t use plastic bags, recycling festivals and green living festival, for example. The campaign “Clean up the World” was launched by Australia in 1993 in support of the United Nations Environmental Program conducted annually in the third week of September.
