A Vietnamese reality TV show aimed at finding and training national representatives to compete in international pageants, the first of its kind, will kick off late next week, the organizers said Monday in a press conference.
“Miss World Vietnam – Duong Toi Vuong Mien” (Miss World Vietnam – Road to the Crown), which will run from late September to early December, will begin with the qualifying round scheduled for September 20 in Hanoi and September 21 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnamese beauties between the ages of 18 and 25 who are over 1.65m tall and interested in the contest can submit their applications at http://ift.tt/1soLe4G until September 20. Entrants must not have had any aesthetic or transgender surgery.
Eighteen applicants will be selected from the qualifying round to enter the “Lau dai sac dep” (Beauty Castle) stage, where they will be taught necessary skills to be a professional model, including making up, getting in shape, and international code of conduct, for two months.
According to the organizers, a camera system in the building will be active 24/7, watching over all activities and reactions of the contestants to bring the audience a close-up view of the training process of Vietnamese beauties.
The 75-episode program will be broadcast daily on national broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV6) at 7:55 pm, starting September 29 with a prelude to the main episodes.
The opening show, which will introduce the top 18 contestants, will be aired live at 7:55 pm on October 1 on VTV6.
The final round is expected to be held in early December.
The winner of “Miss World Vietnam – Duong Toi Vuong Mien” will receive a VND100 million (US$4,800) prize and the opportunity to represent Vietnam at the Miss World pageant.
The runner-up and third-prize winner will be awarded VND50 million ($2,360) and VND30 million ($1,415) in cash and represent the country at the Miss International and Miss Supranational pageants, respectively.
The event is jointly produced by VTV, Miss World Organization, HCMC-based BHD Co. Ltd, and Elite Vietnam, a model management company.
