PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, on September 24th officially started a working visit to Cambodia at the invitation of General Neang Phat, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence.

The Vietnamese general was warmly welcomed at the Peace Palace by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on September 25th. At the reception, the Cambodian Prime Minister highly appreciated the fine relations between the two countries and the close cooperation between the two armies over the past time, and confirmed that the Cambodian Government has always supported the cooperation between the two armies and wished for the better bilateral cooperation in training, joint sea patrols, naval cooperation, and coordination for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the rest of the world.
For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich held that the visit aims to further strengthen cooperation between the two armies, hoping that they would always support each other, especially in staff training and military construction and development, and be further dissemination and education on the traditional solidarity and friendship between the armies of the two countries.
Later in the afternoon, the Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation, led by General Lich, paid a courtesy call to General Tia Banh, Deputy Prime Minister cum Defence Minister of Cambodia.
General Tia Banh warmly welcomed the delegation and appreciated the traditional friendship and the comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation between the two armies.
Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich briefed General Tia Banh on the recent developments of the two sides’ defence cooperation, affirming that the Party, State, People and Army of Vietnam always stand by Cambodia in the national construction and defence cause. He also thanked the Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia for the cooperation and support for Vietnam in the search and repatriation of the Vietnamese martyrs’ sets of remains.
General Tia Banh said that the people and the Royal Cambodian Army has always respected the traditional friendship with the people and the army of Vietnam and would do their best to firmly protect these relations.
Earlier, in the morning, the Vietnamese military delegation had talks with General Neang Phat and senior military officers of the Royal Cambodian Army. They exchanged views on concern issues, and evaluated the results of cooperation last year and the first six months of this year, as well as worked out measures to beef up their defence cooperation in the time to come.
Accordingly, in recent years, bilateral defence cooperation has achieved considerable results, particularly in delegation exchanges, cooperation in political and ideological education, staff training, and in search and repatriation of Vietnamese martyrs’ remains.
The achievements in defence cooperation over the past time have proved the unity and friendship between the armies of the two countries, added Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich.
In the evening, General Neang Phat hosted a gala dinner to welcome the delegation.
During the visit, Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich and his entourage laid the wreath at the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument, and visited historical sites in Phnom Penh and officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh.
