An award ceremony organized by the state of New South Wales in Australia at the Sydney Opera House on September 15, honoured international students who had achieved outstanding academic results in 2014.

Vietnamese student, Ly Le Quan, attending the ceremony, was one of those outstanding students

Overcoming thousands of other international students at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and many other universities, Ly Le Quan was one of the final three candidates for the best undergraduate and postgraduate student 2014. Le Quan was also the only Vietnamese student at the award ceremony this year.

In spite of not winning the best student award, Le Quan said that she felt very proud and honored to represent her university and thousands of international students to attend the ceremony in New South Wales. This is not only recognition of her own academic effort and social activity, but contributes to improving the image of Vietnamese students studying in the “Land of the Kangaroo“.

Le Quan arrived in Australia in 2011 and is now in her final year, studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Her desire was to accumulate as much useful knowledge as possible, particularly in the field of human cancers in order to alleviate as much suffering as possible and serve her community in the best way possible.

Apart from studying, Le Quan is also actively involved in voluntary movements supporting the overseas Vietnamese community. Not only a good student, she is also an accomplished International Student Ambassador for UTS in Sydney.

Sharing with students who will go to Australia to study, she said that Sydney is one of the leading international study environments. Everyone should be confident and active in studying as well as participating in social activities to remove barriers of language and cultural differences.

Australia is among the countries, with the world’s largest number of Vietnamese students. There are more than 22,000 Vietnamese students studying at universities in Australia, accounting for a large proportion of the overseas student community in the “Land of the Kangaroo”./.
