(VOV) – The Vietnam and Argentinean Inter-Governmental Committee on October 29-30 discussed measures to boost multifaceted cooperation at its fourth meeting convened in Buenos Aires.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Secretary for International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina Carlos Alberto Bianco presided over the meeting.
The two sides assessed the development of cooperation since the last meeting held in October 2012 and specific measures aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, techniques, education and culture.
They expressed their delight with the increase in two-way trade volume over recent years, which hit a record high last year in spite of the difficult economic situation globally. They also shared targets for expanding and diversifying trade concentrating on products with high added value and technology.
Measures to balance trade between the two countries were explored with particularity as they relate to the agriculture and fishery sectors.
Vietnam is keen on exporting fruits and other agricultural products such as mangoes, dragon fruit, rambutans, grapefruits, rice and coffee while Argentina gives priority to accelerating negotiations on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures to export fruits such as pears, apples and cherries.
Argentina proposed signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in communications, industry and biotechnology between relevant ministries of both sides.
In the 2014-2016 period they will implement agricultural projects such as those related to foot-and-mouth disease prevention, post-harvest preservation, improving the quality of animal foot, and application of biotechnology to produce high-yield soybeans.
They pledged to continue to carry out cultural exchange projects in the 2015-2016 period. Argentina also proposed negotiating on cooperation between the two education ministries and granting scholarships in prioritized fields in the 2015-2018 period.
During his stay in Argentina, Deputy Minister Tran Tuan Anh met the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers Jorge Capitanich, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Héctor Timerman.
He also laid wreaths at the statute of President Ho Chi Minh in Buenos Aires and visited the Vietnam Embassy in Argentina.
