Ha Nam police arrested four suspected members of a gang accused of robbing a gold shop in the northern province on Tuesday (October 28).

The suspects were arrested on the same day while trying to flee to Hanoi, the province’s chief investigator Tran Minh Tien said without providing any details of their identities.

Witnesses said the robbery happened at around 10am on Tuesday at the Ngoc Bon Gold Shop in the province’s Thanh Liem District, more than 50km (31 miles) from Hanoi.

Five people wearing masks and armed with guns, swords and hammers got out of a car and rushed into the shop to smash the glass cabinets and grab gold and jewelry before fleeing, they said.

The robbers fled in the direction of Ninh Binh, before turning back and heading to Hanoi, police said.

Police had arrested four out of the five suspects by 2pm that same day and recovered stolen property, valued at about VND1.5 billion (US$70,500).

Ha Nam police are hunting for the final suspect.
