Ha Noi hosted many attractive activities and exhibitions marking the 60th anniversary of Ha Noi’s Liberation Day (10th October, 1954 and 10th October, 2014) with participation of crowded residents on October 4.
A part of the activities is an exhibition on the social economic and cultural achievements over the 60th establishment and development of the capital, launched by Ha Noi Party Committee, the People’s Committee and Fatherland Front Committee.
The exhibition was attended by high level leaders, including Secretary of Ha Noi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and leaders of departments, ministries.
Thousands of photos, artifacts and documents about the capital’s historical periods were displayed at an area of over 4,000 meters square.
Speaking at the exhibition, the chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao said that after the liberation day, Ha Noi only was a small and backward capital with the total initial area of 130 kilometer square and population of 40 thousands people. Nowadays, Ha Noi becomes a large and modern urban with the total area of 3,328 kilometer square and population of over seven million people. The capital has contributed over ten percent of Gross domestic product (GDP) and twenty percent of the national budget.
A talking show themed ‘Meeting with historical witness’ took also place yesterday with attendance of 300 historical witnesses such as veterans, former young volunteers and Vietnamese heroic mothers, who had great contributions for the country’s the revolutionary career.
Currently, there are 800,000 veterans, former young volunteers and Vietnamese heroic mothers living in Ha Noi. On this occasion, the capital authorities gifted to 300 historical witnesses.
The other important event is to parade and display 60 golden statues of Saint Giong on Liberation Day occasion.
After the blessed ceremony at Soc Son temple, 60 golden statues of Saint Giong were paraded through the capital’s streets. Later, the golden statues were displayed at Ha Noi Opera House.
On the same day, the Hanoi Police hosted a meeting with nearly 200 officials and the soldiers guarding the capital on 10th October, 1954.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang expressed his deep gratitude to commemorate the soldiers and war heroes who laid down their lives for national liberation.
General Tran Dai Quang also congratulated outstanding achievements of police force in Ha Noi during the recent years who contributed to maintaining national security, social order and safety, and developing the country’s industrialization, modernization and international economic integration.
In the evening of October 4, Department of Cultural, Sports and Tourism of Ha Noi celebrated the fourth dragon dance festival in 2014 at the King Ly Thai To Park, as part of a range of cultural activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the capital’s liberation day and the 15th anniversary since Hanoi being recognized as the city for Peace by UNESCO. The dragon dance festival attracted many dragon dancers from 25 dragon teams of districts in the capital.
