U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG defeated U21 Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam 4-3 during the penalty shootout to secure the first slot to the final match at the Thanh Nien Newspaper’s U21 International Football Tournament in Can Tho on Saturday.
Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam mostly defended on home field during the first 20 minutes before switching to attack with a spectator of 40,000 football fans at Can Tho Stadium who supported both teams.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG had more dangerous shots but no goal was scored in official time of the match.
In penalty shootouts, Van Son scored the first goal for Hoang Anh Gia Lai while Manh Hung shot out in Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam’s first shot.
Players from both teams had successful penalty kicks until missed the last shot for Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam, leading to a 4-3 win for Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
Thailand will play Malaysia at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in the other semifinal match.
The final match is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (October 28).
