(VOV) – Indian President Pranab Mukherjee hailed the time-honoured friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and India at a reception for Vietnam Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh who came to present his credentials on October 21.

President Mukherjee said he was deeply impressed by Mukherjee’s recent visit to Vietnam last September during which both countries reached a series of important agreements to lift the strategic partnership to a higher level.

The Vietnam- India relations have grown considerably, he said while suggesting the two sides should consider economic links a focal point in the strategic partnership.

President Mukherjee pledged the Indian Government‘s maximum support for Ambassador Thanh to have a successful working term.

The Vietnamese diplomat, in turn, conveyed greetings from President Truong Tan Sang to President Mukherjee and highlighted his recent trip to Vietnam as an important step in the strategic partnership between the two nations.

“The two countries need to further deepen the strategic partnership with a focus on politics, defense-security, economics, science- technology, oil and gas, cross-cultural exchange and local and regional cooperation.” Thanh said

He confirmed Vietnam’s continued support for India’s “Look East” policy and its initiatives for enhanced connectivity with Southeast Asia and its increasingly important role at regional and international forums.

Ambassador Thanh vowed to do his best elevate bilateral relations to new heights and asked the Indian President to facilitate his working term.

On the occasion, Thanh hosted a banquet at the Vietnam Embassy with the participation of diplomatic representatives and foreign ambassadors.
