Tien Giang is one of the favourite destinations for investors in the Mekong Delta region, thanks to its attractive incentives and favourable investment environment. This is one important factor for T.C. UNION Thailand Group, a producer of tuna feeds, deciding to locate its project in Tien Giang province. Stable material supply
T.C. UNION Vietnam Co., Ltd, an affiliate to T.C. UNION Thailand Group, arrived in Tien Giang province in 2008. The company’s key products include fishmeal, fish powder, fish oil and condensed fish soup. Director Kamron Suepaen said, seeing catfish source, sea and fishing ports in the province, the company decided to invest to make fish feeds. Initially, the firm manufactured fishmeal and fish oil from pangasius, but the unstable supply forced it to change to using sea fish.
With this decision, the company replaced its machines and technologies for new production. Inputs were supplied by offshore fishing companies or local fishing ports like My Tho and Ben Tre. The company also sought tuna suppliers to make products from tuna. The firm started tuna production in 2010 but the supply shortage forced its factories to operate at only 30-40 percent of capacity, which was raised to nearly 60 percent in 2013 and was expected to be further lifted in 2014.
However, in the first six months of 2014, the production was challenged by short supply and rising input prices. In August, production activity was gradually improved since input supply was guaranteed, bringing up the capacity to 90 percent. Due to volatile fish supply sources and prices, to maintain continuous production, the firm has to sign long-term contracts with input suppliers.
Improving product quality
Kamron Suepaen said T.C. UNION Vietnam Co., Ltd is a leading feed manufacturer in Vietnam and product quality is its top priority. Due to high input prices, to offer appropriate prices, the firm has tried to turn out high-quality products to attract more customers. Accordingly, it invested in the most advanced production line systems meeting ISO, HACCAP and GMP standards. This is considered to be an overwhelming advantage of the company.
Besides, the company’s products do not contain any toxic chemicals because human health would be harmed by contaminated meat. The firm actively informs and encourages farmers to raise the standards of food safety and hygiene.
In the coming time, to meet production needs, increase productivity and improve product quality, the firm will invest in more machinery and equipment for production. Moreover, as its existing plants are insufficient to satisfy production needs, it plans to build new production facilities.
The staff plays an important role in the success of T.C. UNION Vietnam Co., Ltd, in addition to local government support. That will be a precondition for the company to develop and achieve its goals.
