“Developing with the nation in general and Hanoi capital in particular, the Hanoimoi newspaper Run for Peace has become a large-scale mass movement, actively contributing to Hanoi’s cultural life, thus becoming a good model for other authorities. From this movement, many young and talented amateurs have grown up, bringing high records for Hanoi’s sports and physical training sector. Especially, the race lured the participation of the diplomatic corps, embassy staff members, and international friends working and living throughout the nation”, said Mr To Quang Phan, Editor-in-chief of Hanoimoi newspapers.

This year’s run is included as an event in the eighth Hanoi Gymnastics and Sports Games Festival, hoping to see new records from athletes.

The race was first launched in 1973 by Hanoimoi newspaper and the Hanoi city Department of Sports and Physical Education (now the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

As planned, around 110,000 students and 45,000 officials, workers and soldiers will take part in races in 29 districts and towns across the city from June 16.

The final round of the run is scheduled to take place on October 6 with the participation of more than 2,000 runners – one of the biggest mass movements of Vietnam.

Last year’s event attracted a record 269,603 runners./.
