Pano feedThe Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Consular Department have called on regional countries to give help in their ongoing search for the missing oil tanker with 18 sailors on board.
The ship Sunrise-689, was reported missing on October 3 when it was carrying over 5,200 tons of oil from Singapore to the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Tri.
In a move to boost the ongoing search for the missing ship, these two above agencies sent diplomatic notes to the embassies of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Cambodia in Hanoi on Tuesday, October 7, asking them to give assistance in searching for the ship.
These agencies also sent notices to the Vietnamese embassies in the above countries, asking them to coordinate in search activities.
The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, the High Command of Vietnam Coast Guard, and the High Command of Vietnam People’s Navy have coordinated with competent agencies of some regional countries to deploy measures to look for the missing boat.
At the regular press briefing in Hanoi on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong said that the ministry has assigned the Vietnam Maritime Administration to search for the ship and investigate the cause of the missing.
Contact with the ship Sunrise-689, owned by Hai Phong Seafood Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company, began to be lost at 4:27 am on October 3, when it was about 120 nautical miles northeast of Singapore and 360 km southeast of the southern Vietnamese province of Ca Mau, the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue reported.
On Monday morning, October 6, the Vietnam Coastal Information Station reported that it had lost contact with the ship, which has a tonnage of nearly 6,000 tons, for four days.
The ship’s owner reported that the ship was in a sea area with very bad weather, the station said.

9. Tran Van Lich, 28, from Nam Dinh
10. Pham Duc Thanh, 26, from Hai Phong
11. Vu Xuan Sang, 36, from Hai Phong
12. Pham Van Cong, 25, from Nam Dinh
13. Pham Xuan Loc, 21, from Hai Phong
14. Dang Van Truong, 26, from Ha Nam Province
15. Nguyen Cao Thanh, 59, from Hai Phong
16. Do Minh Vuong, 24, from Thai Binh
